PPE101: Your Guide To Personal Protective Equipment
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is crucial for ensuring the health and safety of workers in various industries. PPE goes beyond protection against viral outbreaks and includes different types of gear depending on the job requirements.
For instance, construction workers need hard hats to protect against falling objects, while kitchen staff require aprons to protect themselves and the food they prepare. Workers exposed to brick dust need ventilation equipment, dust masks, and nose clips. Divers need breathing apparatus, while cooks need hair nets. Employers have a legal obligation to provide PPE to their staff, and failing to do so can result in lawsuits if something goes wrong.
Body PPE includes high visibility clothing, hazmat suits, and aprons. Limb PPE includes elbow and knee pads and protective gear for workers at risk of amputation. Hands and feet PPE includes gloves, steel-toed boots, and other specific footwear. Head and face PPE covers earplugs and muffs, hard hats and bump caps, eye protection, and mouth, nose, throat, and lung PPE, such as surgical masks, ventilation equipment, dust masks, and nose clips.
