International Migration Trends

International migration is the movement of people from one country to another, across borders, for any reason. There are many reasons why people migrate, but for the most part it is an economic decision.

In recent years, there has been an increase in international migration, and this is is reshaping the demographics of many countries. The total number of international migrants worldwide has increased by over half since 1990.

The United Nations estimates that there are over 244 million international migrants in the world, which is equivalent to 3.4% of the world’s population. The UN expects this number to grow to almost 300 million by 2030 and 400 million by 2050.

International migration has been a major factor in population growth for many countries, such as the United States, Canada, Australia and Germany.
